The combustion of polymer is a very intense and complex thermal oxidation reaction, which is characterized by smoke or blazing flame. When the substance reaches a certain concentration and temperature, it will burn up, and part of the heat released by combustion will supply the polymer being degraded. Further exacerbating its degradation, producing more flammable gas, the flame can quickly spread in a very short time and cause a fire.

Flame retardants are a class of additives that can prevent plastics from igniting or inhibit flame propagation. According to their use methods, they can be divided into additive type and reactive type. Additive type flame retardants are incorporated into plastics in the process of plastic processing and are mostly used in thermoplastics. UHMWPE sheets are belong to thermoplastics.

The flame retardant grade of plastic is increased step by step from HB, V-2, V-1 to V-0 :

UL94V0,V1,V2 are different flame retardant grades, their grades are different, fire resistance test methods are different, test criteria are also different .

VO test method is to tilt the test object 45 degrees, lit with alcohol lamp to remove the fire source,10 seconds after extinguishing.

V1,V2 test method is the same as VO, the difference is that after moving open source, extinguished time is longer than VO, that is, VO flame retardant is the best,V1 second,V3 third,V4 and not the same flame retardant .

HB: The lowest flame retardant rating in the UL94 standard. It requires a burning rate of less than 40 child meters per minute for samples 3 to 13 child meters thick; For samples less than 3 mm thick, the combustion rate is less than 70 mm per minute; Or put it out in front of a 100mm sign.
